General Comment on Equality and Non-Discrimination

In 2018, the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities issued General Comment No. 6 on Equality and Non-Discrimination.

General obligations of States parties under the Convention relating to non-discrimination and equality

States parties have an obligation to respect, protect and fulfil the right of all persons with disabilities to non-discrimination and equality.

In that regard, States parties must refrain from any action that discriminates against persons with disabilities.

In particular, States parties shall modify or abolish existing laws, regulations, customs and practices that constitute such discrimination.
